$14.5 Million Verdict Against State Farm

This is another amazing example of the underhanded tactics that insurance companies are willing to go use in order to avoid paying the claims that they owe.

I applaud the jury for sending State Farm the message that their underhanded conduct is not going to be tolerated.

This litigation started when State Farm filed suit for insurance fraud and RICO claims against the individual and his company for work done by them following a hailstorm. The theory of the case was that State Farm received bad publicity after the storms for denying hail damage claims and as a result, they made unfounded claims against the restoration company. State Farm's charges were dismissed, but the owner and the company suffered damage to their reputation. The jury found that State Farm's claims were baseless and that the company's allegations of being defamed by State Farm were true and awarded him $14.5 million in damages.
